Update: Microsoft has released an patch to fix IE 10/11 in Vista, Win7 and Win 8 Run MS Update to receive Patch(5/2/14)

As you may have heard there is a new vulnerability that has been discovered in ALL versions of internet explorer.  All security agencies are asking that users stop using Internet Explorer until a fix can be put in place.  Security agencies have released the following:

Windows XP = all versions compatible with this version of windows is vulnerable.  Discontinue use and use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.  Since windows xp is not longer supported windows update will not work to deliver a fix for this if Microsoft fixes the issue.  NOTICE this will not eliminate the risk of having an XP machine.  Just this one known threat.  XP will continue to have new threats and Future Link recommends replacing ALL XP machines.

Windows 7 = All versions of internet explorer are effected by this bug.  Microsoft released the following temporary fix:

To enable EPM in IE 10 or 11, click the Tools menu and then click Internet options.

  1. In the Internet Options window, click the Advanced tab.
  2. Scroll down the list of options until you see the Security section.
  3. Look for the option to Enable Enhanced Protected Mode and click its checkbox to turn it on.
  4. If you’re running IE 11 in a 64-bit version of Windows, you also need to click the checkbox to Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protected Mode.
  5. Restart IE to force the new setting to take effect.

When a fix is found Microsoft will release if and it will be installed during the regular windows update process.  Also you could switch to Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome if you wish.
