As 2017 draws to a close, here’s a run-down of some the IT risks you’ll face in 2018 and how best to respond. Be sure to click the links for more detail about each topic.
1. Infected websites. It’s increasingly common for websites to be hijacked or infected.
We’ve seen sites get redirected to porn sites, fake ecommerce sites (to steal credit card info) and even hijacked to spread viruses and become spam servers.
The security of your website is just as important as desktop security. Make sure your website is up to date and that you routinely backup everything.
2. Ransomware. Ransomware is a growing threat to every business – large or small.
Protecting your network doesn’t have to be complicated. You need a good firewall, anti-virus protection on PCs and servers, spam/virus protection for your email and reliable backups.
3. Spam. Spammers are becoming more sophisticated.
The more spam you get, the greater your chances of clicking on a malicious link. That’s not to mention the loss of productivity as you sort through hundreds of junk emails.
There are simple ways to manage spam that don’t require you to change your email service.
4. Out of date servers. Many Exchange servers are reaching the end of their lifespan.
Building a new server and maintaining it can be costly. That’s why many of our clients are moving to Microsoft Hosted Exchange (also called Exchange Online).
Hosted Exchange is a version of Microsoft Exchange Server that is delivered and accessed from a remote server or through a cloud service provider. It’s a Microsoft Corporation proprietary product that provides the same and enhanced functionality of a standard exchange server, but with a different delivery model.
Exchange Online is usually more cost-effective than Exchange Server and has other advantages as well.
For example, Exchange Online helps you manage increasing volumes of communications across multiple devices. Syncing is also faster and more accurate across your devices.
